Re: CAR INSURANCE
It may be his first car but has he any driving convictions?Ombudsman seems good route. Then a cheap banger 3rd party.Course he could always do what loads of people do..drive round without any pay the ?100 fine when/if he gets caught. In Britain today the dishonest option seems easier dont you think?
Re: CAR INSURANCE
Hi welkram - some further thoughts occur to me on this, having now had a look at N's standard policy wording. (N are of course now part of the M.. Group!)
If your son has comprehensive cover, the policy will include the cost of protecting and transporting the vehicle to the nearest suitable repairer.
The settlement of a claim works on the basis of an offer, less the excess applicable. There is no requirement to pay this up front.
In terms of the cancellation condition it is going to hinge on who requested the cancellation. If N........ invoked this themselves, then they must refund a pro-rata proportion of the premium. And that would probably mean your son had already paid sufficient premium for the period he was covered.
If however your son requested the policy to be cancelled himself, then he would only be entitled to a refund subject to having made no claims. In this situation N would consider they are entitled to payment of the full annual premium. The fact that there is no provision in the policy wording to 'suspend' cover (pending your son obtaining a replacement car) would have rather tied his hands if the vehicle was declared a write-off.
From what I've read, it doesn't sound to me like N are fulfilling their obligations to 'Treat Customers Fairly'. However, before the Ombudsman can become involved N must first be given the opportunity to put matters right themselves.
There are procedures I take issue with in terms of how this claim is allegedly being handled, and I'm more than happy to provide further advice and assistance if you email me direct.
