Or maybe because it is TOO EASY in this country to decide you dont want to work, and the government will continue to give you money even if you never show any interest in getting a job.

Maybe in Austria they actually only give you "benefits" for a short time, then stop them if you dont get a job (unless you have a very good reason for not getting one).

I think we have known for a long time that this is the scroungers capital of Europe.

I couldn't agree more, I've just been off the phone with another mate who in passing mentioned a shop fitter who has worked for him for 12 years has quit to go on the dole.

His missus recently lost her job so the mortgage insurance has kicked in and is paying that and he has worked out that its more cost effective for him to be on the dole getting all the various benefits he can than to carry on working at this present time.

Now i'm not actually too outraged by that as the guy has apparently worked like a trojan for those 12 years and to be honest its nice to see someone who has actually made a contribution for once to buck the system for a change.

What is outrageous is that the system allows this in the first place and therefore really is anyone really surprised by the endless oxygen thieves who have never adfe any form of contribution to manipulate to their own end.

"I think we have known for a long time that this is the scroungers capital of Europe."

Very perceptive comment. Round our way we have been inundated with Norwegian, Austrian, Danish, Swedish, German etc. scroungers living it up on the huge benefits paid by this country.

I have talked with some of these scroungers and they marvel at the way pensioners drive round in top of the range cars here whilst in their countries pensioners have to decide whether to eat or have heat in winter.

They also think it fantastic that the jobseekers allowance is about ?50 or so a week. Although they think it ridiculous that the middle classes are taxed to death to pay for these scroungers living it up, they dont seem to have any conscience about coming over here and taking everything from the "scroungers capital of Europe"

The local Spar round our way is full of tinned caviar bought by these benefit scroungers.

Of course you could take an alternative view.

I am not referring to those just on jobseekers allowance, if you are a single person with no kids etc etc then yes being on the dole in the Uk is crap BUT if you are a pair with children and have little morals you can potentially earn over ?30 000 per annum quite easily. its been mentioned before that you only have to go to the doctors with 'stress' and you can claim full incapacity benefit for starters. oh and get a free car by the way.

i am not having a go at those genuinely in need but i am saying that in the UK there is a significant attitude of 'fuck it i cant be arsed i'll just sponge' by certain members of society whereas in europe yes benefits may be higher in some instances BUT the attitude to actually getting off your backside and trying to help yourself is more ingrained than it is here.

You are kidding yourself. Where are the figures to support your view? All this is I know a bloke down the pub, I was reading in the Daily Express/Mail etc etc stuff.

Here's a differing view and yes, it has a statistical basis!!!

Scroll down to look at the table entitled Unemployment Rates in Dec 2009. As you can see the UK unemployment rates are relatively low compared to many EU countries.

So if you and Guilbert are correct that the UK is full of immigrant benefit scroungers and UK citizens who can't be arsed, compared to other countries, wouldnt you therefore expect the unemployment figures to be much higher?

David, can I ask you where you get the time to track down all the facts and figures you seem so keen on ?

It takes a few seconds via the miracle of Google.
