"The Ego believes in as we saw with him considering going to the country when he took over from Blair, but then decided against having an Election because he realised he wouldn't win it".

Max, you could not be more wrong, had Brown been decisive at that point, he would have won it easily, that's not to say he would have had a big majority, he wouldn't, but he would have won it. If he loses this time round, that will haunt him forever, but as I cant stand the twat, this would please me a great deal.

I wouldnt take to much notice of the polls, remember when Kinnock held his pr-election party to celebrate his forthcoming win because the polls predicted a landslide for him, boy did he have egg on his face and so did the polls, i suspect there are still a lot of undecided voters as yet so it is to soon to call a result !wink!

!oops! ........... Having had to stomach hearing Brown lay soldiers deaths and equipement deployment ( for deployment, read "shambles" cutbacks" and "gross lack of integrity/honesty") at the feet of generals who not so long ago ALL threatened to resign because of said cutbacks,i would gladly settle for anyone who isnt Brown ,basically ..... Im sick of listening to anything this man has to say now as ,exactly like his predecessor before him,its more important to save face and try get away with lying than to tell the truth, accept responsibility and actually accept that yes, cuts were made that left the Military seriously underfunded....... To lay the blame at the foot of someone elses career is just disgracefull..Especially when those people are only at war becuase YOU SENT THEM..........

Sadly Sarah, the fucker knows no shame, he a gutless moron, the depressing thing is that many other morons will try and re-elect him, because he has out manouvered them. The only good thing will be watching him trying to deal with the mess, and going cap in hand to the IMF. Prudence my arse.

Lots of interesting comments there. On the issue of whether Brown and Cameron may have to live in Downing Street at the same time, I don't why why they wouldn't - after all a hung parliament would be a coalition of two parties running the country.

The accomodation arrangements at Downing Street haven't always been as the public thought. When Blair became PM in 1997 he and his family lived at no.11, while Brown lived at number 10 (the opposite way around from how one would have thought they would have lived). This is apparently because there is only a one-floor flat at the top of no.10, and a two-storey place above no.11. Blair later moved to no.12 Downing Street, that large red bulding at the end opposite St James Park, as his family increased in size.

During World War 2 when there was a coalition between Churchill and Attlee it was always said that 'Churchill ran the war and Attlee ran the country', and because of what Attlee did on the home-front I would imagine that was why he won the Election after the war even though Churchill was of course very popular. Churchill lived at no.10 during the war, I dont know where Attlee lived.

Some PM's haven't even lived in Downing Street, Harold Wilson in the 1970's lived in Lord North Street - about 600 yards away. It was an open-secret that he lived there but all the time he 'officially' lived at 10 Downing Street.

As far as getting Bills through the Commons, when there is a coalition, I imagine it will be very difficult. Sweetners have often had to have been given to the Northern Ireland parties or to the Scottish Nationalists in order for a Government with a small majority to get a majority in its favour for the Bill to be passed. The most diffucult period any PM has had in recent times was when John Major had hardly any majority in the 1990's and Bills often had to be debated several times. The Massricht Bill was the hardest for him and he got so fed up that by, I think, the 3rd reading Major threatened to call a General Election if it was not passed. The Conservative Whips used to bully backbenchers into voting with the Government. If there is a coalition in a few months time it will be interesting to see how hard it will be to get Bills through, sweeteners will be given to the smaller parties on a large scale, and the machinery of Government will come near to grinding to a halt quite often I think.
