I just watched the full video as suggested by Jim and found it, as we
all have, a horrible example in reality TV.
But war is an ugly business; in most cases it consists of people - ordinary
ones like you and me but sometimes with emotions under stress - having
to make split decisions that involve KILLING people. That is what war is
about at gut level.
To some extent, without making excuses, I accept Ned`s agument....but
in a general sense the American style of high-tech gung-ho warfare
without little direct (or not enough) connection to the people and the
country is fraught with disasters.
The most expensive war machine in the World - the US Military - depends
on ordinary soldiers, often at the end of a mobile phone in Headquarters,
making decisions and a simple Joe who feels safer and happier sitting in
a gunship, firing his expensive weaponry.
Now the British Army in its long history has had its fair share of fuck-ups
and blunders but we also have a much longer history of what can be
called colonial engagements. The best example, pertinent to Iraq and
Afghanistan, is our policing of the North-West Frontier of India 1838-1947.
We got our asses kicked several times but we also respected our enemy
and tried very hard to understand him, we learned his language and
knew his ways and customs.
In a new book, "Waging War In Waziristan" (University of Kansas Press)
Lt-Col Andrew Roe, 2nd Battn, the Yorkshire Regt, has urged the
Americans that they can learn a lot from studying how the British got
to know the Moslem fanatics they fought for 109 years.....
But the Americans are the slaves of modern technology and dumb as
shit......This sad Video says it all !!!!

Isn't there a famous quote that symbolises the American view of engaging and pacifying the populations of countries that they have invaded?

"Grab them by the balls and their hearts and minds will follow!"

Jimslip, This horrific footage shows what really happens in the theatres of war which is sad but also illustrates the power of individuals with their handycams to bring the truth to the people of the world and destroy the monopoly of mendacious state controlled media to distort what really happens.
Power to the People of the world to destroy state censorship worldwide and tell it like it really is.
