Cameron on the 6 o'clock news today.

"The Conservative party will always protect the sick, the ill and the disadvantaged."

The point is that the destruction of the homeless shelters etc etc. written about in the link were done under a CONSERVATIVE run council described by Cameron as a model of compassionate conservatism. It was a Conservative council responsibility

Err, have you read the link Sam provided?

It was the Labour Goverment that gave councils the power to do this and just about anything else they choose to do, the blame must always lay with the goverment of the day who have the power to control Councils.

I will take that remark as a joke, shall I? Graham gave a British army soldier a gun as part of his duties as Quartermaster. The British army soldier then went and killed most of his colleagues. It was of course Graham's fault.

Ah, I understand the logic now!

Local authorities work within the powers laid down under various Acts of Parliament. Their functions are far-reaching. Some are mandatory, which means that the authority must do what is required by law. Others are discretionary, allowing an authority to provide services if it wishes.

A Conservative council gets in and asset strips the borough. Please explain precisely why this is the fault of the Labour government.

If a government stepped in and took over the Conservative council responsibilities in Hammersmith, how would you think the Conservative party would view it. "Big government" "Fascist takeover of council responsibilities etc etc"

That Tory council was voted in, democratically. Do you want central government to over rule local council decisions about how they spend their money? Isn't that nearly communism? Ha ha ha.

It's immoral and indefensible, and the pride of Cameron.

Graham,

I have read some idiotic posts on this forum and yours is up there with the most asinine.

Both Conservatives and Liberals are in favour of devolved power to councils away from the central government. The powers that councils now have are based on legislation going back decades.

Hammersmith and Fulham is Cameron's passionate Conservatism in action where the role of the state is cut back to the bone.

To argue that this is somehow the fault of the Labour government is disingenuous, misleading and downright stupid.

The blame needs to be placed where it should lie - with the Conservative council who have implemented these measures

You should be ashamed of yourself.
