Hi,
"Okay - but what about the point that if you pay tax in one country why should you have to pay it again in a second country?"
Err, I have answered this question already - see link below.
We are talking about the House of Lords where legislative decisions are made.
If you are a tax avoider you should have no say whatsoever in the legislature of the country you are stealing from. I use the word, steal in a moral sense. However, tax avoidance is merely tax evasion which the Revenue has not closed down yet.

In short, tax avoiders are analagous to walking into a UK children's cancer ward and stealing the cost of a child's operation on the basis that they want to buy a new flash car. Tax avoiders are scum and should have no part to play in the UK government, irrespective of party.

They really are not - unless you believe that everyone who (legally) avoids paying tax on income is responsible for kids dying of cancer.

You are taking a very simplistic view of the concept of tax avoidance. If I am self-employed and claim legitimate expenses against my business, that is not tax avoidance in my book. It is adhering to the guidelines on what is acceptable as a business expense. Even so, it could be deemed in the very widest sense, avoiding tax.
If I have a business and make use of a loophole in the tax system as advised by a highly paid tax adviser, go offshore, base myself in Belize in order to save paying millions of tax in the UK etc like a significant number of companies and individuals do, that is tax avoidance.
The former is not wrong morally, the latter is. And I repeat it is contemptible that people like tax avoiding Ashcroft have been allowed to get away with it previously at the same time as they have been passing tax laws which Joe Public has to adhere to.
Cheers

If I won the Euro Millions I can assure everyone that I would put that dosh offshore so that HMRC couldn't get one fucking penny of it.
I pay higher rate tax and I fucking hate it.
If I was self employed I can assure you all that I would be looking at ways to fuck HMRC. Them bastards have screwed me for fucking years. I have an Army Pension, one that I payed into for 22 fucking years and the bastards add to my present salary and skin me.
A fucking raghead comes here illegally and gets all of mine and your tax pounds thrown at them for fuckall.
Grumpy old bastard? moi, you better fucking believe it shipmates.

Whilst I don't share your perspective on tax, I fully appreciate you are entitled to your opinion. However, 2 things:
1) What do you mean "a fucking raghead"? I trust I have misconstrued what you mean (or at least I hope I have).
2) Lottery winnings are not generally taxable, and on that basis HMRC wouldn't be interested in it.

I also suspect that, but I like to give racists the benefit of the doubt.*
