There have been policies to encourage 'the poor' to better themselves for years. In the 80s and 90s the Tory government were so keen for people to start businesses they said that if you earn 20k a year as a small business they will not look at your books at all - they just asked for, each quarter, one line on a piece of paper stating how much you had grossed, another line uinder it saying how much you could offset against tax, then the remainder on a line underneath. They would then tax you on that last figure at (I think) 25%. They never asked for one receipt, they totally trusted you. You could fiddle the figures and avoid paying any tax and they didnt care. They were so keen for people to start small businesses that they left the people alone. I would imagine the figure today is more like 30k and under.

So did Jade Goody.....and we all know what most of the forum think about here intellect.

You say you came into this world with nothing, which raises the obvious question: would you have made this 'shitload' if you'd have been paying the most bloody tax exactly at the point when you had fuck all?

And even if you think this retarded idea of yours would work, driving the poor to strive for better jobs and pay, who'd then do the shit, poor-paying jobs, father-fucking-christmas?

Ahh.....so you want immigrants to do the shit, low-paid jobs, but think your system will lower immigration? That doesn't make sense. There are many more ?10000pa jobs than ?20000pa jobs, and there are many more ?25000pa jobs than ?500000pa jobs....and on it goes. And because of this it would either mean there'd be more immigrants than Brits in the country, to fill all these jobs, or immigrants would be totally put off due to the tax laws, meaning millions upon millions of menial, low-paid, but nevertheless essential jobs laying vacant.

Of course, you're clever and have already worked this out. Which means you just posted this moronic idea to provoke a reaction. No?

What a stupid and ill-conceived idea in the original post. I second Sam's suggestion that people should be taxed on stupidity (or at least on how much they troll on internet forums).

The terms "better" and "worse" off are used for a reason; it's all relative. Poor and rich are just relative terms which describe wealth distribution.

It's sad to see people who regard intelligence, value to society and/or a individual's self-worth as directly proportional to their wealth. What unfortunate, insecure and blinkered people they come across as.
I don't care who does the shitty jobs.
Well someone has to do them. Who's going to fill in the pot-holes, fix the pipes when the water main bursts, or serve/cook your meal when you eat out? Who's going to change the light bulbs at the hospital, or wipe peoples' arses for them when they become too old to do it themselves? Under your mental system no one would bother and the country would go to rack 'n' ruin within a few years. But you've thought this all through so let us all in on your plan......cos your clever.
Immigrants or stupid people,
What, even the migrants that retire with a good pension and go settle down on the Costa del Sol? Or is it just the 'coloured' immigrants you're talking about?
If you can't climb the ladder(retards excluded,)then tough tits.
Many people can climb the ladder, PH. It's just that that ladder can't become top heavy or it'll fall over. Not everyone can become heavyweight world champion. I don't even have to point out the ethics of such a system, nor your lack of compassion, because it's completely silly and unworkable anyway. It's the sort of theory a seven year old would come up with when asked how society could solve poverty: "Just give everyone jobs with lots of money, Miss, and if they don't get jobs with lots of money we can tax them till they do!.....and send them to bed with no supper!"

The frightening thing is, I don't think you're seven years old.
