Name me one British car better than a Merc.
I go for quality and reliability. Again, name me one British car with better quality and reliability than a Merc.

Mercs have a poor reliability and build record of late and their dealers are considered to be amongst the worst in the UK and THE worst amongst the "premium" brands/makes. 30/40/50 year old Mercs are better put together than anything produced in the last 10 years.

As for a British car that is of better quality and has better reliability than a Merc... easy... any of the new Jaguars

Given you obviously know nothing about cars, I'll ignore your suggestion.

Evading the issue Rodders. You're the patriotic poster boy .. why you would have sacrificed your life for your country. That's an emotional choice yet when it comes to a piece of machinery you become uber rational. Why ?

Other brands too are not built like they used to be either.
I have a 10 year old Audi A4 diesel which I have run for 5 years and now has 110k on the clock, uses no oil between services and returns 50mpg. It has only needed about ?300 on parts & labour over and above annual services & MOT at a local independent garage plus tyres and a battery that any car will need - I have kept well clear of main dealers.

Half of me says to change soon since cambelt will need changing next year (?400ish), clutch is still original (again ?400ish), exhaust is still original, I have not had any brake pads so no doubt discs will be needed too etc. The other half says pay the bills as needed, probably still have overall good reliability for another 3-4 years and still be quids in as minimal depreciation.

While still above average the garage tells me newer Audi's less reliable which is backed up by surveys. Also the spec of the same model badge is now lower e.g. just air conditioning not climate control.

Since most of the basic components are from the same parts I'm thinking if I do change to go for a Skoda as 2 year old similar price or less than a 4 year old Audi.

Masie,

Since the Vitara suited you particularly for getting to the stables maybe look for another one and personalise it when you have saved a few ????

Quicky I can't think of anything similar but perhaps someone else will.

Bollocks. The E class were of poor quality but that has been rectified.
All of the C classes that I have had and still own are well put together and are the best cars I have ever had.
As for Merc dealers, I won't argue with you. The answer is don't use the fuckers. There are plenty of Merc specialists around apart from the dealers. I learned about the dealers years ago and have fuck all to do with em. The only use they have as far as I am concerned is the supply of genuine Merc spares, which actrually are well priced compared to fucking beemers.
As for Jags are just fucking Ford Scorpios with a Jag badge nailed on the front and back. Plastic tinny shyte.
