The reason why you can't record from digital to digital ( i.e. DVD to DVD)is that the macrovision and CGMS kicks in. You can get round the macrovision but not the Copyright generated Management System which is there to prevent piracy as well.

No doubt some wag will find a way to bypass the CGMS at some stage as they always seem to.
