"Lets remember a child is dead because of this woman and her cretinous staff."
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
A child is dead because the mother, her boyfriend and his brother murdered the child.
This really pisses me off.
I remember that after the child was killed the pictures of the Social Workers assigned to this case were plastered all over the newspapers.
It was only a couple of years later that we got see photos of the evil bastards who murdered the child. Even then there were people lining up to say it's not right to publish photos of these bastards because it would make it more difficult for the authorities "to protect them whilst they serve their sentences".
Good I say, I hope they all get their heads kicked-in on a regular basis.
There's lots of rights and wrongs about what the social workers, (and Police lets remember) did and should have done, but it really, really pisses me off when all the blame for the child's death is laid at the feet of the authorities as if the people who should have taken care of the kid had no responsibility at all.

You are right of course. Can you imagine some poor woolly jumpered social worker having to knock on the door of a family of Chav scum to see if all's well? You're going to say to yourself, "I don't get paid enough for this shit." and hop back on your bicycle and peddle away fast!
There should be a hit squad of social workers with body guards, who have rights to kick doors in and slap a few chavs, if they give any trouble. Arrest the whole bloody lot of them if necessary, lock 'em up and cut off their Bennys, that would sharpen their minds a little. Kick ass first, ask questions later.
Social workers need to be in armoured cars these days to deal with the hordes of lawless scumbags that run amok. A little less hand wringing and a little more neck wringing wouldn't go amiss.
But that's me, a namby, pamby Liberal!!happy!
A typical social worker:

She was the Director of Haringey social services, they failed in thier duty of care, so she has to shoulder the blame, other people involved did the decent thing and resigned, this womens head was so far up her own arse that she refused to take responsibility for what happened, but let's also remember any employee facing the sack has to go through a procedure, that's the same for everybody, the procedure was not followed correctly and that's why she won her appeal, anyone would have done. I don't think for one minute she will get million's, some wise wag at a tribunal court will probably just give her strictly what she is entitled to, sickening though it seems. Also remember she has not been exonerated from her refusal to manage the department properley, that one will stick and quite rightly. She has simply won her case for unfair dismissal, because that's what happened. What she should do now is shut the fuck up and show some humility and responsibility, but insread she will probably try and cash in on her inhumane treatment by the establishment.
Disgusting really.
Responsibility, the Law, Balls

First, Shoesmith has accepted responsibility for the failings of her department re. the Baby P case. She did so in an interview on the Today programme.
Secondly Balls did handle the situation badly if he announced the sacking of Shoesmith on TV before she herself had been told.
Having said that an Ofsted report reviewed the situation at Haringey and highlighted a very big range of management failings, the most damning of which was "management oversight of safeguarding services by Haringey councillors and officers. There is a managerial failure to ensure full compliance with the recommendations of the Victoria Climbi? Inquiry (which reported in January 2003 following the death of Victoria Climbi?, also in Haringey)".
It was on the basis of this report that Ed Balls decided that Shoesmith should go. She obviously was not prepared to take that step herself and resign. I suspect that this is part of public service culture as it is in the private sector. Don't resign. Wait and see what the payoff is.

THe only mistake that Balls appears to have made is not following the correct procedure required for sacking someone, unless the writers of the report did not let Shoesmith give her own take on the failings.
As Shoesmith has rightly pointed out, you could have the most efficient social services child care department in the world and that won't stop evil bastards murdering kids. However, if the department hadnt even implemented the measures recommended by the previous report into the death of Victoria Climbie years previously then unless Shoesmith was overruled/prevented from implementing said measures she deserved to get the push.
Cheers
