Three certainties in life are death, taxes and unemplyment being higher under tory governments. They also signed the death warrant to the NHS today with the help of the lib dems, barely a murmur from the bbc,now a paid up tory propganda tool.

The bottom line is neither this government or the last see/saw maximising self-sufficiency / minimising imports as a priority. Until there is a policy change high UK unemployment will continue.
Just in case any politicians are reading this here a few examples of items currently imported that could be UK produced
Food
- Tesco's basics chicken fillets & pork chops are from Holland and Germany yet Lidl's fresh pork is UK sourced.
Transport
- I'll stand corrected but apart from low volume specialist vehicles other than the Ford Transit plant at Southampton all vans and commercial vehicles are imports
- most bus chassis are imports
- most coaches are imports
- rail vehicles from Siemens
Construction Plant
- most is imported
- JCB now import about 65% of components but 30 years ago it was less than 10%
Clothing
- very little mass market clothing is UK made.
- the military sock contract was taken off Halls in Hinckley. On paper it was awarded to a Northern Ireland company but all the manufacturing is in China.

Lets start investing in the future energy requirements of Britain. Start a programme of building coal fired power stations. Open the coal mines that Thatcher closed. Plenty of unskilled workers needed. Stuff the windfarms we still have 300 years of coal to burn.!winner!

I feel very sad for the young 'n's. It is pathetic how my generation has plunged many on the scrapheap before they are even 20.

Hi,
I agree unemployment for kids under any British government is tragic.
Although there are some who have no ambition whatsoever and would say that they are okay to scrape along on the dole, the vast majority of kids want a decent job, get on in life and go out with their mates to have a good time, get laid, go on foreign holidays and enjoy life.
When I recall the opportunities that were available to me as a kid even though I came from what would be viewed as a poor family, I had so many more chances than kids today.
Very sad indeed.
Cheers
D
