They do it for house of Lords seats or other honours. They all have their slimy noses in the tax payers wallet.

As you know, I can't share completely your pessimism. In my mind the people who think all the three main political parties are the same either:
1. Don't consider anbody other than themselves, so if they are no better off under the Tories than they were under Labour, political parties are all the same or
2. Well off to the point that it doesnt matter who is in power they will still be creaming it.
**********************************
The above seems a pretty accurate description of Westminster politicians, to me. All of the three branches of the tri-partite elected dictatorship, the LibLabCon, share the same fundamental practices
They maintain the hypocrisy that this is a democracy
They serve themselves, not their constituents
They serve party leader and party, not constituents
They serve Parliament, not constituents
To deceive the electorate means they get judged by their peers, national and international, as professional, proficient politicians. To deceive Parliament means they get the sack.
Their entire political existence is a lie, the lie that they operate a democracy.
Ye sordid prostitutes;
Dissolution of the Long Parliament by Oliver Cromwell given to the House of Commons, 20 April 1653
It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.
Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?
Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors.
In the name of God, go!

The irony of that statement being that many of those professing to be caring-sharing "progressive" socialist types on forums such as this (and I mean this in general terms, not as a dig at any particular individual here) tend to be the most biased, unpleasant, snobbish, sarcastic, supercilious, morally-superior, self-important, priggish, aggressive, blinkered, misinformed, misandrist, dogmatic and - yes - bigoted (i.e. intolerant of any views that oppose their own) individuals / forum entities of the lot.

David, I make no apologies for putting Number One first because nobody else is falling over themselves to make life any easier for me (certainly not politicians) and let's face it - almost every other fucker does as well. Mainly because they have to. It's a jungle out there (sadly). A dog-eat-dog world.
I speak not as a rich man at one end of the spectrum or as a poor benefit-claimant at the other end, but as a member of the vast "squeezed middle": People who work hard to achieve a reasonable standard of living but who at the same time are finding themselves increasingly screwed by the taxman and let down by politicians of all shades who only seem to be interested in (a) feathering their own nests (b) serving their party first and foremost (as alluded to by Toliver above) and (c) pandering mainly to their core 'client' constitients (i.e. the wealthy in the case of the Tories and benefit claimants, immigrants and other so-called "minorities" in the case of Labour).
But perhaps you can affrod to be so magnanimous and "fair minded" because you yourself are ...

To make matters worse, it seems he is an advocate of homeopathy on the NHS. If ever there was a worse waste of scarce resources than state funded magic water dispensing, I have yet to hear it. On a more serious note, he has in the past voted for the time limit for terminations to be lowered from 24 weeks to 12; so not a pro-choice supporter it would seem.

"David Johnson: the "People's Spokesman"
Yes I know you would vote for me, Eric!
However, if you look at an electoral map of the North of England, never mind Scotland for the last three elections that Labour won you would see that there isn't a whole lot of blue compared to red on the map. And in Scotland, the Tories hardly exist. That is because the electorate had THatcher pretty well sussed and didnt want any more of that from Hague etc etc.
THEY realised the difference between Thatcher and the Labour government.
THen along came PR smoothie, hug a hoodie, most green PM you have ever seen etc etc Cameron to coincide with a global financial collapse and the TOries got back in only because of a Lib Dem betrayal.

Well argued, articulate and excellent research to boot.
Can't argue with your analysis.
