I agree, it's not a very obvious reference. A pussy and a dog are too different animals.

To correct you though, Lassie (ie the character was female, a 'lass') was always played by male dogs as their coats didn't moult in the summer and looked the same all throughout filming. Wikipedia rules.

I hope she gets back on TV soon, Louise Minchin or Lorraine Kelly is like choosing between a flat pint and stale bread.
