David, it's maybe time to wise up. The inquiry will be "if you intend to sack my client, I will bring charges against your assistant who was seen to assault a Chihuahua and the bastard didn't even use vaseline. There will be a counter complaint and another complaint and it will be all paid by us the lovely taxpayer. At the end of the day there will be apologies and then they will go and have a big party (funded by us of course) pair off and bum each other.

I said "should" go, not "would" go.

It's not in the same league at all David. You can't sensibly compare serial child abuse with a canteen ruckus (which appears to have been what it was, something of that nature anyway). Although I agree you can't just go round punching people and that if it turns out that's what happened, some sort of penalty is appropriate.

I suspect that there are those within the Beeb who want to see the back of him and see this as the perfect opportunity to get rid, so it's all being "bigged up". I suspect that it was probably just a bit of handbags at dawn. If it had been a serious assault there would probably have been police involvement, and as far as I'm aware there has been no mention of them having been called. No doubt it will all come out in the wash.

"It's not in the same league at all David. "

That is why I use the word "similar" instead of "same" The points of similarity are:

1. A major Beeb celebrity who has a key role in generating great ratings.
2. A history of misdemeanours or rumours of misdemeanours, not just one.
3. Actions largely remaining unpunished which in the vast majority of working environments would be punished. If I had punched a project manager on any project I had been involved in, I would have been straight out the door. Cheerio and don't come back!

Even the threat of swinging a punch would get you walked off the premises at most employers. It will be very interesting so see how the publicly funded BBC play this one out......

I note that rabid, right winger Clarkson's mate, David Cameron has described his friend as a "great talent" and he hopes the Beeb will "sort it out".

This is the Clarkson, who's a member of the Witney set, together with Call me Dave and bessie mates of Rebekah "Phone hacking, what's that? Brooks.

I suspect if it had been a TV celeb who was a left winger with a history of slagging Cameron off, he would have been demanding a sacking from the Beeb.

Pass the sick bucket!

David, I sometimes wonder if you live in a real world. The purpose of a business is to make money obviously this does not include the BBC as they are playing with tax payers money. Now please tell me if you have ever deviated from stated workplace practices . I know I've been in jobs where there could be lives lost and to be honest a PC work permit takes second place to getting the job done. In these situations management are never to be be seen because technically they would have to stop the job if they saw what you were doing but they were always at the fore when the "job well done" citations were dished out.

I agree with Argie on this. He is correct.

Do give your "I am a man of the world, you are not" guff a rest, Dick. It has stopped being funny.

"The purpose of a business is to make money"

Ever thought of writing a book on business, Dick. It has all the makings of a best seller. !wink!

An employer is responsible for their workers safety. If this was an attack I would have thought the sack is the only option.

Have you ever thought of writing a book on common sense ? I doubt it and again the Johnstone arrogance comes through ---- he is correct. Johnstone has stated so it must be true.
