Mandatory sentencing after the third crime...whatever it may be...doesn't stop reoffending because it doesn't deal with the cause.
We use to have similar laws in the Northern Territory
A guy went to jail for 18 months after his third crime of stealing a half full can of beer...
Just like the death Sentence has never reduced the amount of murders
When I see corporate executives like those at Enron cashing in shares for mega millions before the companies collapse....need I say more..insider trading at its worst...and these bastards are still walking the streets
cheers

Are you Blunked-it-again's PA?
That's one hell of a coherent sentencing policy.
NOT.

'White-collar' crime will always get a lower sentence, because money is more important than Human life. Or, at least, that's the message our Legislature/Judiciary keep sending..........
Biggs was just the tea-boy, a wannabee whose best break was The Big Break......I was a regular customer of Buster's at Waterloo, and he was a nice, REFORMED, guy.....having been a THOROUGHLY vicious bastard previously, on his own admission.
The deterrent effect of those sentences meant that there were never any further train-robberies- though current sentencing policy certainly suggests that they were too harsh. Which they were...........
As to the Kray/Richardson lot- it makes me puke that they'e hero-worshipped by the media and other such assorted fools like Guy Ritchie, when they were such absolutely nasty people. True, their sentences were disproportionate, and they were to an extent victims of the Meeja, but that in no way excuses their crimes.
The main trouble is, from my standpoint, is that 'Justice', and The Law, meet so infrequently........and when they so do, they always beg to differ.

I wouldn't have punished her at all, I'd have rewarded the woman. Making money out of the system who makes money out of everyone else is admirable. Well done that girl. Best part of it, she can turn herself in "at her leisure"! Fantastic.
