I'm not David Clarke : -)

Check our respective profiles- that's all the proof I need.

Beans, circus? Ring a bell?
Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of annoying Alec and
the mods. Largely because of me, they're now approximately 2.7
million years behind with updates. We'd better all hope that the
Universe is an oscillating one, to give them a chance to catch up.

"Egafd"- Steve only posts on bgafd, usually in the O/T forum,
where his talent for inconsequentiality almost approaches genius.

Back in the 'good old days' he [and sometimes me] would post
100+ per day, but I suppose age has blunted our stamina : -)

I'm sorry, that's even worse than 'God save the Queen' : -))
For me, the only national anthem with any musical merit at all
is the old Soviet one.

Why IS it that almost all NAs are so unutterably twee and corny?

Beautiful, but I like even more the german one.
I agree with your judgement about our hymn: italian Romanticism was not a good artistic period, unlikely that of other countries. In literature, for example, just poets and novelists compromised with Illuminism and Neoclassicism were good.

But... it's only our hymn, but I like it...

I despair that the nations that produced Monterverdi and Dante,
and Purcell and Shakespeare respectively, should have such awful
anthems : -)

I have never doubted their Machiavellian fiendishness and Satanic
malevolence- and my paranoia and egomania are perfectly justified
in the belief that they do this solely to annoy me

I prefer to call them "the triumvirate", along the lines of Biggus
Dickus and his 'fwiends' : -))
