So the Italian has two spellings? Interesting..... I guess that the
shorter form is a later rationalisation of spellng, a little along
the lines of US-English 'color', which ignores the secondary origin
via Norman French [
couleur] and [re-]references the original
Romance/Latin
color. I love English so much because it tends
to retain the etymological history of so many loan-words.
