If after finding and ripping the vob files and demuxing the audio to your hard drive, you can stand to wait at least 10 hours to frame serve your first pass, then another 10 hours for your second pass, then mux your sound to the image coppied after first converting the AC3 file to MP3 and remembering to set the delay time of the audio to the image correctly, then split the film over multiple discs after first ensuring that you have the correct bitrate and deciding whether to use variable bitrate or constant bitrate after first deciding what you are writing as MPEG Layer 2, MPEG layer 1 or DivX and not worrying at all about copyright infringement - then do it, but only for personal use.

Me - I buy the original. And yes I can copy DVD's but the results can be really shit at times and is the above really worth it? Buy the original, you know it makes sense.

If anyone bothers to read the copyright information, and I stress I'm no lawyer, then you can't copy a DVD without first obtaining prior permission from the copyright holder, in fact you can't do much without obtaining prior permission.

peg u r right that it says ur not allowed to copy, but it also says 'other than for private viewing in the home' so ur allowed to make a copy if its only the original owner who uses te copy, if they let other people watch it or try to make money with it, then they break the copyright law.

It?s not copyright you want to bother reading Ghostdog, it?s YOUR RIGHTS as a consumer, and you won?t find that on the back of a DVD. The DVD I?m reading says... ?UNAUTHORISED copying, hiring, puplic performance, radio or tv broadcasting of this dvd is prohibited? ...it?s like saying ?Unauthorised speed on a motorway is prohibited? ...yes ofcourse, but it?s not telling you WHAT IS AUTHORISED. What is authorised is one copy (if you?re the original owner) for back up/ personal use, not to be resold/hired etc etc. And I was correct on both counts ? the other being keeping the copy and selling the original - perfectly legal. Call F.A.CT. (Federation Against Copyright Theft) if you don?t believe me.. 0845 603 4567
