If after finding and ripping the vob files and demuxing the audio to your hard drive, you can stand to wait at least 10 hours to frame serve your first pass, then another 10 hours for your second pass, then mux your sound to the image coppied after first converting the AC3 file to MP3 and remembering to set the delay time of the audio to the image correctly, then split the film over multiple discs after first ensuring that you have the correct bitrate and deciding whether to use variable bitrate or constant bitrate after first deciding what you are writing as MPEG Layer 2, MPEG layer 1 or DivX and not worrying at all about copyright infringement - then do it, but only for personal use.
Me - I buy the original. And yes I can copy DVD's but the results can be really shit at times and is the above really worth it? Buy the original, you know it makes sense.
If anyone bothers to read the copyright information, and I stress I'm no lawyer, then you can't copy a DVD without first obtaining prior permission from the copyright holder, in fact you can't do much without obtaining prior permission.
