Magoo, I have about 40 episodes on video of Minder and about 50 of The Sweeney, and they are excellent viewing. Its suprising how many known actors on TV now appeared in them including Pierce Brosnan. I thought Professionals was shite, but still have all 59 episodes on tape, and again, MANY actors, especially on Eastenders appeared in them. I think Martin Shaw is a tosser for not letting terrestrial TV repeat the shows as he regrets making them, although he is happy to collect his royalties cheque when Granada Plus show them. I wasnt a fan, but it was better than most shite on TV then, and would hold up well against current shows now.
I saw an interview of David Jason who said he improvised what George Cole started as Arthur Daley, he tapped into it and milked it, which is why it WAS funny to begin with, but as usual, dropped off after the novelty wore off.
I see the women in them like Debbie the stripper and wondered if they appeared in 'soft' blue movies as they really looked good.
I always liked Chisholme and Jones from Minder. Anyone remember Victor Meldrew playing DCI Hoskins replacement in Sweeney? He did about 8 episodes and was replaced by Claude Greengrass from Heartbeat. Happy days
