I beg to differ. As my colleague One-Eyed-Jack pointed out over an agreeable lunch the other day, a lot of US porn actors are actually frustrated straight actors that didn't quite mange to break into the mainstream movies being made just a few blocks down the Boulevard. Viewing US imports I am regularly wowed by the acting talents of many American shag stars in contrast to most Brit 'stars' (male & female) that descend into a stuttering chasm of inarticulacy at the merest mention of the word "script." Ah, the American's. If we combined their comparative ability, seemingly unlimitless dough and our traditional British taste what wonders we could produce.

Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
I saw this also, Alec ("Too Naughty") & think it is almost an excellent film. But ultimately it comes up lacking. The scene where Gillis & Ginger watch Angel (very fine if you don't know her) masturbate, & Jamie sticks his finger up Gin's butt & she smiles at him like her had just given her a Rolex...now, THAT was good.Movie starts well but just sort of fades away IIRC.
Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
I saw "Chloe" about a year ago & thought it was a real downer. If the sex scenes had been shorter it could have been one of those disengenuous admonitory 1970's porn flicks--evils of drugs, abusive b/f's, wicked doctor--& the sole nice guy in the movies never gets any sex!!
O/T Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
I have seen a couple that might fit your criteria fairly recently, both (don't groan) from Vivid. The 1st was a French flick, "Citizen Shane", released in 1998 but maybe a bit older judging by Draghixa's appearance;plotted & w/ pretty good production values but a whole lot of sex. Definitely a sex flick. The other was "Artemesia", same deal,2000."Mobster's Wife", also from Vivid (1998) was supposed to be good too, but I didn't see it.
U.S. films from the late 70's to the early 80's usually had plots & often decent- to- good production values as they were made for viewing in theaters."The Opening of Misty Beethoven" was tops in all non-sex categories, a take-off on "Pygmalion".There were quite a few others I can dig out if you are interested in going back that far. Many of the "plotted" porn vids from the 1990's were"soap operas" & the stories just got in the way. There were a few good 'uns tho.

Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
True, the later scenes weren't as good, partly becasue of too harsh editing I think, i.e. too many too fleeting glimpses of shots you'd like to see for longer, and partly because Ginger and Jamie Gillis could act, but still a lot better than most.
Re: O/T Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
Forgot to say I totally agree about Angel BTW.
Citizen Shane was 1996 according to IMDB, notable for Anita Rinaldi (yet another gorgeous Hungarian) doing a Sharon Stone. Excellent, watched it the other day. I'll have to check the copyright notice in the credits to check the date as IMDB aren't always right on dates. The French label was Marc Dorcel.
Some of the lines in Opening of Misty Beethoven are quite funny, e.g. where the airplane stewardess scolds a woman giving a passenger a blow job 'Pilot's wife or no pilot's wife, ...'
An earlier Radley Metzger film which has only oral sex in explicit form but which is highly erotic is L'Image (The Punishment of Anne) and it features Mary Mendum (Rebecca Brooke) who was very much worth a look. Recently released on DVD as well.

Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
I think it's difficult to make a porn film that is also a good film because the sex scenes stop the plot dead.
That said the best one I've seen was Pussy Talk (Le Sexe Qui Parle) which was made during a short golden age in France sometime in the 70's. A lot of those films have been reissued as a classic series on DVD in blue livery (2 films on 1 disc) and you can get them easily in Paris. They're not expensive and they usually have an English soundtrack as well. You won't find better value anywhere.
And while you're at it go the the Boulevard St Michel and buy a shedload of bd's. They are the ultimate porn medium IMHO.

Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
Thanks for the input guys, It,s interesting to see peoples different perspective on the subject, but I,m genuinely interested more in films with erotic and h/c content, and a reasonably plausible storyline.I,m sure it,s a age thing as well,
films of the 70,s etc "Had" to be more conservative I guess to pass stricter censorship laws, therby guaranteeing some kind of storyline, not to mention better sets, clothing etc. I remember wathing a French or German film something "Automobile" where a group of really attractive girls were taken out for the day in a mini bus, they breakdown, and naturally when the mechanics turn up, they all get serviced, and some guy plays a retired racing driver who had women all over him, wish I still had it.
shot on location, really fit women, quite believable, especially the dream sequence with the racing driver, anyway I,m rambling so I,ll fuck off.
Liz..half a thermos short of a picnic

Re: Lizard, searching for the truth.
There are very few story-based porno titles that
have enough of a plot to sustain any interest, which
is why I tend to stick to gonzo.
I was however pretty impressed with Dark Angels:
Believable is the wrong word, 'cos its a vampire flick,
but one with pretty decent production values.

Miami Spice 1 & 2 with the one and only Amber Lynn!!!
