I meant 'seized' (stolen by the Police!) You're probably right about them not being allowed to just destroy things (not that I would put it past them - it depends what the law is), but it sounds quite hopeful. Where did you see the developer say he was working to restore the site?

afaik nothing was stolen and afaik the servers were only seized because a suspected site hosted illegal stuff (beyond possible copyright issues). ..... but i wouldn't assume that law enforcement has the authority to destroy entire storages when it's clear the storage contains data which isn't part of the raid's cause.

Given VEF hosted nothing, as I posted before, and were not the target I can't see how their content can be destroyed or held beyond a reasonable time for investigation / analysis. For the filehosts the same for genuine content but the reality is that most was originally ripped from the producer although probably impossible to trace a chain or even the actual uploader. I wonder in this situation what powers law enforcement have to hold indefinitely if not actually destroy the content ? I'm thinking the equivalent of a raid on market stalls for bootleg CD's and DVD's.

Didn't VEF lost data before? So I presume they have a back up now? It's not like that forum takes up petabytes?

yes, there were several storage crashes before, some more, some less hard in its impact but always led to the situation of losing data, at least data from the most recent days. but you can't compare that with what's happened few weeks ago. and yes, they work with backups. question is, if they were clever enough to host the backup elsewhere, not inside the same domain. forums are typically small in size as long as they don't host uploaded stuff themselves. image upload directly into the VEF db was blocked very, very early, and other file uploads were never possible. it's all text. it has size, but it's not that weighty.

didn't see it myself since i don't put a toenail into this forum, but i've read a reddit that was talking about a discussion inside vipergirls forum and they copied some of the posts and/or repeated some of the messages to reconstruct what happened and what's still happening.

VEF doesn't host themselves, but still it's a platform where specific links are shared. the legality is.. well, let's say the industry is tolerating it to a degree. and with this perspective, i can see a reason that law enforcement looks deeper into such domains as well, just because they got suspicious and asked for permission to extend the raid. but i don't want to cry wolf here. it's just my view.

Apart from VEF itself, imgbox, imagebam and imagevenue are down. And to add to the fun, pixhost is blocked in the UK, as is imagetwist.
Just VEF on its own would be a barren landscape.
