Ah, but I was under the illusion that the UK sex industry was a 'community' of sorts. Especially given that there's some cross over between performers taking part in top shelf magazine shoots and hardcore film appearances?
We all swim in the same pool so to speak, risking vilification from feminists, censors and UK culture which can't discuss sex without sniggering. The reason we have been subjected to such restrictive laws relating to sexual expression over the past few decades is simple. People never got together, never vocalised one strong opinion; all too keen to all grab at their own sice of the porn pie without seeing the bigger picture. UK smut traders would be millionaries by now if they weren't defined by their inability to group together and fight for the right for free sexual expression in the 70's/80's and 90's.
So ends the first law of the Buddha.

hmmmm...
If the UK porn industry wants a group like AIM in the UK surely the industry should 'unionise' (ie a certain % of a performer's fees or a film's budget goes to that group)? The worry here is that, as mentioned, there is no easily accessible free healthcare in the USA but there is here. Am I right in understanding that some (if not the majority) of performers' HIV tests are done for free on the NHS? If so, I think any unionisation that risks the newspapers shining a light on UK porn practises would be a bad move. Tabloid says: Why the hell should the UK tax payer be paying for porn performers to get tested (using NHS funds that could be better served cutting waiting lists for hip operations yadda yadda) instead of the professional body the industry pays into or the performers themselves (it is, after all, a business expense)? Industry has no sensible answer. Consequently all the setting up of an AIM type organisation will acheive is to provoke a situation where all performers have to pay for tests out of their own pocket (whether via their own money or the fees they pay to the British AIM). This surely acts as a deterrent to getting tested, and will therefore have the opposite effect to the purpose of setting up an AIM type group in the first place. Catch 22.

Re: hmmmm...
Somebody, either the TGW or Unison, is now representing table dancers etc. Surely it wouldn't be a massive jump to include adult performers in there?

Re: Dililema
after spending 2 sleepless nights and actually waking up at some point (when i did finally get to sleep) saying " i dont want to wake up in the morning" , id like to know if angel has come to a concluesion over her dilemma.
i hope i have gone some way towards helping in promotong safe sex and righting some of my wrongs.
however this has now left me so far fucked up that in between wanting to "not wake up in the morning" i think i now want to leave the business myslef.
U JUST CAN NOT WIN! THIS BUSINESS WILL NEVER BE SAFE!

Re: Amateurs...
john it may have escaped ur attention but there is also such thing as pro/am models of which i am one of many (far more than are solely professional).
this is actually why i won an award cos i am pro/am. i make great porn movies then go out n meet the guys one way or another.
what are u talking about professionals shouldnt get involved with amatuer. even the professioanl movie makers are jumping on the great uk amatuer bandwagon and making professional but made to look amatuer movies.
dont slate amatuer work or workers! its what the uk adult industry is built on at present.

Re: Amateurs...
Excellent point Sandie (It seems to me that the most pertinent observations in this particular long and tortuous thread have come from you.)
As someone who's watched vast quantities of Brit, Euro and US porn, the one thing that the Brits outdo all competition is the amateur and pro/am slant of most British output. So our erstwhile stars, you included, can be admired as professional talent and yet are willing to do excitingly erotic am and pro/am stuff that in a way brings you closer to your public (no pun intended).
Unfortunately, it's because of that intermingling that the risk element gets heightened. But it's still much better than in the US where the truly amateur stuff is more dark alley/underground with the result that health issues (not just HIV) are not even addressed at all.
The good thing about this thread coming from fans, talent, directors, producers and presumably some medical sources as well, is that we all are more alert to what the risk factors really are and what responsibilities we have to bear.
More power to you, girl. Do what you gotta do. And good on you too, Angel, for bringing this matter out to light.

My opinion.
Apart from educating people re "working girls" using condoms, I have stayed out of the discussion, simply because I have nothing constructive to add.
Seems to me that the whole issue is about: Education/nformation/advice etc. etc. from PROFESSIONALS - like Doctors and Nurses.
Medical advice is freely and readily available from local hospitals/clinics.
I would suggest that any Lady in this biz, and any Wannabee, take appropriate medical advice from PROFESSIONALS.

Re: Amateurs...
But don't you think that "amateur" should still be 'safe' and within the confibes of the testing procedures?

Sandie,
From your yahoo group, I thought you were giving up the business and going behind the camera, though keeping your hand in with the occasional party.
