Trouble is, I don't like reggae music. I've always liked Brit and American pop/rock music, and Brit, Euro and American Classical. Nope, can't see any Third World in that list.

Nothing wrong with that list. I do think that there are OTHER people who like other types of music other than what you listed and does have a positive influence on your culture, like reggae.

It's not about taking sides, (either a lover or a hater of said religion) but you've listened to the other side of the coin and readjusted your views a little. Seems like common sense to me!

We all have our faults as a race/nation/culture and we're all guilty of intolerance at some stage in our lives no matter what background we come from.

Like I said:

Not all bearded Muslim men are terrorists.
Not all 'anti-immigration' people racists.

I've seen both sides assume too much, too quickly about eachother, both on this board and in real life. It stops us discussing things openly, without bias, assumptions and mistrust.

And I'm pig headed. It'll take a LOT more than one nice old man to persuade me that his culture as a whole isn't intrinsically unstable and has a penchant towards violence if you merely disagree with it.

Don't worry C.J. on this forum they tend to be a bit conservative in their musical tastes, I for one think that Reggae is F*****g ace. my personal favourite is Lee(scratch) Perry, mad as a hatter but a genius.
My favourite Black musician/Writer/Producer is Geeeeeeooorge Clinton, leader of myriad bands e.g. Parliment/ funkadelic and also producing Bootsie and the Brides of Funkenstein and lots more!!
Years ago, I was working in Africa as an Engineer and one of our crew was from Texas, and he astounded me when I was talking about Tamla Motown being a big part of my growing up in Grey ol' England; he said "What's Tamla motown?". It turned out that even in the early eighties in Texas the radio stations were segregated along racial lines.
On the subject of nationality, creed,; or religion some of the biggest C***s I've ever met in my life have been white and supposedly christened C. of E.
