Re: Filmmakers Expecting Guys to Pay for Filming
I believe Ben used to charge blokes to audition (a) to weed out the timewasters, and (b) to cover the costs of the female model, and it was a lot more than ?150 (more like ?500). But I'm sure he's said he doesn't do this any more as he doesn't do auditions in general as they're more trouble than they're worth. The best approach for someone wanting to get into porn studdery is surely to bring a female (girlfriend etc) with you for your first ever shoot/audition - no way anyone can get away with trying to charge you then.
Asking for money in advance does sound a bit of a scam, like all those "escort agencies" that advertise for male escorts in the Sunday Sport. Just send ?50 and a passport photo to a PO Box in Doncaster, etc etc... Yeah, right.
I could understand them asking the male performers to invest in the film's production costs in exchange for a small cut of the backend, but asking someone to pay for a handjob (at considerably more than knocking shop prices) that you are then going to film and make money of sounds a bit dubious.
Get enough blokes to cough up the money and it's more profitable than releasing the footage. In fact, why bother even putting film in the camera...

Thats a little different Eduardo and I am sure you know it.
Ben is Britain's top adult male star/producer and that thread is about launching someone into a porn career. Something that is incredibly hard for a guy to get into.
The post you were talking about was someone simply wanting to make a film to make him money and then charging the guy. Ben doesn't need newcomers to help him make an adult film. He's actually pretty good at it actually. His post is to help guys get into a pretty closed industry.
Besides you have never even tried to answer my question, if the reason the guy has to be charged is because as a first time performer with no track record of turning up. Why not charge the first time female performer who also has no track record of turning up? Answer: Because its wrong

I stand corrected if it wasnt the guy making the hand job movies - perfectly prepared to admit I was wrong so apologies for that!

Yes I agree with you it is wrong that guys get charged and not the girls. But I understand why it happens.
How many times with a new guy do you think that you'd be left in the lurch with the guy not turning up, never to see or here from him again. I would guess alot but then it is just a guess. Sure there's no guarantee that the girl will turn up as well but as I said before this is a girls based business. I would offer this as the same reason why the girls don't get charged either for their first time shoot. I may well be wrong. Its' the people in the biz who can only answer that and not me.
It's not fair but then it's not fair when I go to my local nightclub on a Thursday night and have to pay a fiver to get in and the girls get in for nothing. Lifes not fair is it, but you understand why the owner of the club does it. It's wrong and it is discrimination but welcome to the real world. Discrimination happens all the time.
On the subject of Ben and Terry charging new guys, why do you think they do this? Do you think they need the money that badly? I doubt it somehow.
Also I'm not getting off the topic of the post. I offered a comparison between the the HJ party and guys getting into the porn biz and I didn't say they were the same but there is a similarity.
I did answer your question previously about why the girls aren't being being charged as well and I've repeated it here.
All I've done in my posts is state an opinion that I have. I have mine and you have yours. We don't have to agree. Thats what forums like this are for, so different people can express different opinions. However you are trying to pick holes in my posts because I don't agree with yours.
We can always agree to disagree.

Re: Filmmakers Expecting Guys to Pay for Filming
I think in general it is taking the piss.
The big names like Ben and Terry can justify covering costs for auditions etc... because their time is worth money, and getting into one of their productions is a real foot in the door for the industry. If you are in a Ben Dover you will be seen throughout the world.
If you are going to spend that kind of money as a punter why not either hire a professional escort that allows you to film for an audition tape. It will cost about the same amount of money, with a lot less risk and hassle.

Re: Filmmakers Expecting Guys to Pay for Filming
Just read through this discusion and thought I would add my thoughts. We produce many movies for the web, most recently for our site uknymphos.com , we tend to use a lot of guys that are trying to get into the industry, we do not charge them for appearing in our movies.
But you will be suprised how many times guys do not turn up, they are all up for it when we speak on the phone but come the day of the shoot they are no where to be found and we never hear from them again.
Luckily we always over book the ammount of guys we think we will need and we always book a couple of guys we have used before and know are reliable. At a shoot we did last month I had 8 guys booked to appear, 6 new commers and 2 reliable guys, none of the new commers turned up and only 2 of them contacted us to let us know. So at the end of the day we were left with just 2 guys, who once again performed excellently. We have no intention of charging guys but makeing them pay a deposit does sound like a good idea to weed out the time wasters.Harry Hardon wrote:

One thing I forgot to mention was the girls, in all the productions we have done we have only been let down by one girl (not just once either) and she is a very experienced girl, all of the less experienced girls have all shown up and have been excellent to work with. Male performers seem to be the problem in the UK.tas wrote:
