I read once that the American weirdo Ron Jeremy, who bizarelly has become a celebrity in the mainstream media, said that his family would only be happy for him to do porn if he didnt use the family surname. As I mentioned at the top, everyone will know it is you as they can see your face but there will be less of a chance of oddballs tracking you down if they dont know your name as they would have hardly anything to start with in their quest to find you. There are a couple of crackpots like this in the USA - I remember Sharon Mitchell, who starred in a few films with Ginger Lynn in the 1980's, had a stalker - and she was badly attacked by him once. I hope they caught him and jailed him. Unless you are Jenna Jameson you are not really famous anyway, in terms of being a household name, and I cant think of anyone in the UK porn scene who is super-famous. Most could walk down the street unrecognised. Other than the security point of view, and other than your family maybe not wanting the surname used, I see no real reason for not using your actual name. I think Cate Harrington is her real name. I know Poppy Morgan is not her real name as she said in an interview that Poppy was a nickname and Morgan was the name of Darren Morgan who 'Poppy' was married to for a time. It is quite obvious that Lolly Badcock is not her real name, but in the case of Laura Hermansen I am sure Laura is her real first name. Not sure if the last name is her actual surname.

Thinking up one's porn name is quite a challenge. Probably a bit like trying to come up with a name for a band you have just formed. It might take you ages and some bands have rubbish names. Some have good ones of course. I could probably come up with some good porn names if I spent some time thinking about it. It was always said that the American male pornstar Peter North arrived at his name because: Peter sounds a bit like penis (does it? he thinks so anyway...), and North is a reference to the fact he comes from Canada, which is obviously way north of the Los Angeles porn scene he became a part of. Ginger Lynn used her real name, but never the surname. She only started using her surname Allen when she got into mainstream movies later on.

I'm sure i've read a few times that Angel and Ashley took the Long surname as it sounds a bit like slong? I'm not even sure they thought up the names themselves as I'm sure I read they were both renamed as such by someone else whilst doing a film together in the states but i could be wrong. Sure they used their real names a few times over here prior to doing stuff in the states.
