The public system is best summed up by Parkinson asking Peter Cook when he lost his virginity

Cooks response "Which end dear boy" I went to a public school you know(words of that effect)

Back to the topic at hand

Paul Weller-voice like a moaning wife and lyrics to match

I'd sooner see Billy Connolly or Billy Bragg Knighted

Music doesn't need meaning just a beat

Lyrics are secondary

Of course there are some great examples where lyrics enhance the music

I always wonder...where does music end and political statements begin?

I pointed out the same thing to a Jam fan in the early 80s, and he was not amused. Couldn't deny it, though.

The Frog Chorus? Mull of Kintyre? Ebony and Ivory?
Yeah....right....he hasn't written a halfway decent tune since Band on the Run, and he's still suffering that inferiority complex about Lennon- I think the latter was much the better writer, true, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the quality of those Macca wrote for the Beatles.
