Get Carter was directed by award winning director Stephen Kay who was a big fan of the original. When making the film the main thing for him was that it stayed true to the novel Jack`s Return Home. Also Michael Caine gave it his blessing because he loved what they were doing with it.It`s not a remake as the film goes in a different direction than the original.Caine appears in the film playing Cliff Brumby.Other British actors in the film were Miranda Richardson,Alan Cumming and Rhona Mitra. When Caine saw the film he liked it and also Sly`s performance. This coming from a man who is not easily impressed.

Antz is cool.
What about Judge Dread. I think they should have made a few more. OK it was niot great, but lets face it, if you did make a film like the comic books, it would be an 18 if not baned.
I read that he was born disabled and spent many years in a wheelchair, thats when he wrote the Rocky film. If you look at him, he is still a bit paralised one side (thats why he talks funney).
It was his mum who said he would walk (thats why he has that strange relationship with her).

His lop-sided features were a result of his bungled delivery with forceps, he was never an invalid, although his son, Sage, is autistic.

.....I actually had to inform Magoo that the final scene with Hendry was filmed at Baites's Staithes (and we pronounce them 'steeths', BTW.......).
Still, I'm just a 'Cockerknee Geordie', as M would doubtless say, the nasty Git.....
....I really hate him, the smart-arsed little foul-mouthed git, I dunno, some people.............

There must be some talent as he actually came up with the idea and wrote the script for Rocky, and despite what anyone say's Rocky 1/2 are class films.
What about his early dubious film 'The Italian Stallion' with one Linda Wong, well known American porn star of the 70s.

I do respect him as he did it all his way, and when they wanted to cast a 'name' in Rocky, he stood his ground. We've all seen his films, and regardless of their artistic merit, they DO entertain us..........well, most of the time!!

I am with you on this one Ace. They should never have remade Get Carter.
My old next door neighbour has an autistic sson and was heavily involved in setting up a local school for autistic kids. He wrote to Sly Stallone asking if he would perhaps like to lend his name to their publicity fund raising efforts by sending them a letter or something that they could use in their literature. He was completely suprised when Sly sent them a huge cheque completely out of the blue. I am talking five figures here.
So he is a top bloke and a diamond geezer. He gave that money because he wanted to help and he got no publicity for his generous deed because he is a gent unlike some celebs who only give to charity so that they can get publicity. Hes the sort of decent bloke who insisted the papers were not told about the cash donation. A nice bloke.
Now Arnie Shwartzenegger on the other hand is a bit of a twat. His politics are right wing and he makes John Wayne and Charlton Heston seem like whiney liberal do-gooders.

Now, now JJ. No need to get upset and chuck your rattle out of the pram.
I would never accuse you of being a cock(nee) geordie.
I have never discussed Get Carter with you so you must be getting me mixed up with that bloke at work. I am familiar with all the locations used in the film. The final chase on foot was interesting because Mickey Boy ran 20 odd miles from the Dunston coal staithes (near Gateshead on the south side of the Tyne) to the East Durham coast (Seaham or Dawdon) in 5 minutes and never even broke into a sweat. Now thats an athlete!
BTW the multi-storey carpark that he chucked "Alf Roberts" off is due to be demolished soon. The local Get Carter Appreciation Society did a re-enactment there last year. Daft twats should Get a Life never mind Get Carter. I like the film but I would stop short of spending my spare time acting out scenes from it.
And the beach where the final scene took place is still black with coal despite the pit closing years ago. It will take decades for all that spoil to wash away.
