Rumour has it STP originally stood for Shirley Temple's Pussy, although they did have the earlier moniker Mighty Joe Young.

More to consider.........

Gorky's Zygotic Monkey. Skin Chimney. Amon Duul. An Emotional Fish. Goats Don't Shave.

My personal fave is that fine North American punk band, a fave of Ian Paisley, Dead Popes Society. I think they are quite popular with biggotted Rangers fans but not too hot in The Vatican........

Fly Pan Am

Flying Saucer Attack

Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem - (the original name of the red hot chili peppers - before they found drummer jack irons and become RHCP)

Insane Clown Posse

There is a heavy metal band from america, around the early 80s called W.A.S.P - evidently it stands for We Are Sexual Perverts...

Detroit Escalator Co.

There debut was Animal (Fuck like a Beast) Saw 'em at Powerhouse in Birmingham in 1984. Great live act, shite music. The tour t-shirt was the subject of an obscenity law and I was clever enough to keep mine unworn to this day......worth a few quid (even if its too 'small' around the beer belly)

There used to be some classic names, but one that stands out is 'Bigfoot and the Groincrushers'
