The police used to search us before football matches, to make sure we weren't carrying concealed weapons like steel combs minus a few teeth, or tactical nuclear missiles.
As I remember, pasta was particularly frowned-upon: the damage you could do with farfalle or orecchiette was something awful.........of course most civilised nations have now signed up to the PNPT (Pasta Non-
Proliferation Treaty), which rightly forbids the battlefield use of such terror weapons as conchiglie and fusilli.
Except of course, for the Italians, who never fight fair.......the atrocities committed in the Gnocchi Wars with Switzerland in the 1880s still bring a shudder to all right-thinking persons.........
