I can hack it for a little while yet, I don't deal drugs or live on the South Side so I hopefully won't be getting a 'cap popped in my ass' anytime soon.

The missus is on about having kids in a couple of years time, so when that happens we'll move to Wisconsin - a much prettier - and cheaper - state.

Ah well that's just it. As much I love to visit NYC I wouldn't want to live or work there, I love the place but it's not for me. I must say that I've always found the New Yorkers to be superb people though. Other US cities I like are San Francisco and Minneapolis, I personally thought Seattle was a shit-hole and I can see how it spawned all those miserable bands. It's says something when the main feature in a city is a bleedin' fish market!

Give me rural America over urban America any day, I love the quirky small towns and off the beaten track places where you can find the "Real" America.

Florida would be nice, though too many right wing americans. The new forest is lovely. Although i love going abroad, i'm too used to good old blighty, though in Vietnam or Thailand, you could like like a king,i imagine!

what is the special things about Montana that make it stand out as a place to live ?

Good point. I must confess that I have not LIVED there as such I've just visited it but what stood out for me was the absolutely breathtaking scenery and the warmth of the people. They are good enough reasons in themselves but add to that the fact that you can buy the most palatial house in Montana for the price of a miserable terraced house here in Essex plus the amazingly low US prices on cars, fuel etc and it all starts to look incredibly appealing.

The climate is pretty awesome too, properly defined seasons hence hot summers and snow in winter. If you love the outdoors and get a buzz from the natural environment it is a stunning place.

I've been fortunate enough to see a fair bit of the world and Montana completely floored me, in fact nowhere else has impressed me as much.
