As long as you don't intend to work and can support yourself most of the places seem to let you stay indefinately. Only problems seem to be around medical insurance and getting any form of credit locally because you're not paying anything into the system. I know they're all pretty strict with dishing out work permits and don't seem to want anybody over 40, regardless of qualifications/work experience - but as a long term tourist they don't seem to care too much.

I don't think that's true of NZ. Yes, there are overstayers but if you get caught you'll be deported.

I've done some checking on NZ - I can stay there 6 months initially and up to 9 months (12 in exceptional circs) in an 18 month period, then I would need to leave and stay away for as long as I'd been there. But I also meet the Skilled Migrant requirements - I scored 110 in their checker, 100 being the threshold for entry - so I presume I could apply that way and llok for a job (or not) once I was there.

So you have ?500,000 and you buy a nice place etc. Then what do you do for an income then to live because once you've bought your house, whatevers left from 500K won't last long. If anyone has the answer I'm well up for it so answers on a postcard please.

Well, you can try to get some TV doco. company to pay you to feature in yet another series about plonkers who make the move abroad without thinking about the consequences.

You mean like moving to a British Colony or Dependency like Gibraltar or Hong Kong only to find within a decade you've been left high and dry
