"In 1945, Clement Attlee and the Labour Party defeated Winston Churchill's Conservative Party in the election. Attlee announced the introduction of the Welfare State as outlined in the Beveridge Report. This included the establishment of a National Health Service in 1948, with free medical treatment for all. A national system of benefits was also introduced to provide social security, so that the population would be protected 'from the cradle to the grave'."

Do you realise that the vast majority of people on here think you're a cunt?

Whatever people may or may not think of Mart isn't the question. He raises a very good point. Benefits spongers make very good newspaper headlines, and they tend to be the sort of folk that we as a nation can loathe as a group, even though they are quite often the same people you buy your cheap booze and fags and iffy DVDs off.

But you don't get the press taking quite as much interest in the tax dodgers because, and let's not be coy about this, they tend to be friends of the folk that own the newspapers, who own companies, work in the City. It's called "being astute" when it's that kind of person. Yet they are working the system the same way as Mr Sign On For Disability Benefit Because My Back's A Bit Iffy. Both groups are detestable, so why save your vitriol for one and just ignore the other?

(Incidentally, if someone has been holding a straw poll about Mart, I'm hurt I wasn't asked my opinion. Can we see the figures or is this a "most people who agree with me think" kind of survey?)

Thanks Caractacus.
I'm sure some people on here think that Rudeboy is an arsehole, not that I'm saying he is.
I don't what to get banned by the mods for personal abuse.

Not in my experience, Carac. The Del boys you allude to may not be sophisticated folks and may cock a snook at the law - but they are enterprising (a positive quality). They have got off their arses and are taking steps to make their own dough. Consequently, I feel, they deserve some respect.

But there's quite a different group - from the same social strata - that feels no shame about dosing around and holding out their hands for every benefit that stupid, nocy, poncy, middleclass folk, bestow on them. To them, benefits have now become a way of life. These fuckers have no self-respect; indeed one gets the impression that the very concept of self-respect is way beyond their limited comprehension. One only need pay a visit to a social security office on any day of the week to see what scruffy, despicable, vile fuckers, some of these people are - effing and blinding at the at the lower middleclass admin staff sat behind their bullet-proof screens - "WHERE'S MI FUCKIN' GIRO, YER CUNTS? I 'ANT HAD NO FUCKIN' MONEY ALL WEEK! - is typical of the stream of abuse the staff has to face all day, from pre-Neanderthal mongs, who don't appear to have many more brain cells then an amoeba.

We?re not bothered about tax fiddlers ?cause they are bright, they are showing some initiative and enterprise, and we need many more of them (bright people) if we are going to compete with China. So, no one wants to piss them off too much. Also, a lot of people are upset about paying tax, not because they don?t want to chip to the national pot ? but because they feel that noncy middleclass politicians are squandering that money on scumbags and wasters.

I fear Rudy may be right about mart, and honestly, it gives me no pleasure to agree with that sentiment. I just think it?s a shame. He?s brought it on himself. Even when we support different teams we can still be civil to each other, we can still be cordial, shit, we can even still be friends. But, it seems, not with mart. He can?t help himself, he?s just a peevish little snide.

"I'm sure some people on here think that Rudeboy is an arsehole,"

I can't see it, mart. Rudy always talks sense. Indeed, I would go as far as to say he's a paragon of objectivity.

I wouldn't worry about being banned, mart. You'd have been banned long ago if the mods had felt your negativity and snide remarks were anything more than an irritation.
