Wish You Were Here/Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Achingly beautiful sentiments from the incredible Roger Waters echoed in the godlike playing of Gilmour and Rick Wright. A "Love" song of sorts for their departed friend. The "Two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl" gets me every time. If there has ever been a more talented writer than Roger Waters I've certainly never heard them.
Maggie May/First Cut Is The Deepest/Downtown Train - Rod Stewart. You can't beat Rod.
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World - Prince. He's probably singing about Anetta Keys or Sandy or Mia Stone...whoever, this is a masterpiece.
Winter - Tori Amos. Off the scale masterwork from American genius.
Beast of Burden - Stones. Sensational in EVERY respect.
Almost Heard You Sigh - Stones. Ditto.
Underground Army/You'll Never Be Alone - Anastacia. Now this lady can sing! From restrained power to searing emotion, this lady is a vast talent and the real deal in a time of fakers and wannabes.
Without You - Mariah Carey. It's desperately uncool to like her so I went out and bought every album! Whatever you think of her this is a vocal in a million.
Carpet Crawl - Genesis. Sod all idea what it is about but is a gorgeous melody and a brilliant vocal from the Angel Gabriel.

'Gang Bang' by Black Lace, Rita Sue & Bob Too soundtrack;
'Ace of Spades' by Motorhead, so sweet!;
'Your Mother's Got A Penis ' by GLC.
The theme tune to 'Minder'.
Yeah, right......and my favourite weepie movie is a straight choice between Rambo 3 or anything starring Lexington Steele (makes me cry every time).
Seriously- all you guys have mentioned the cream of ballads. My extras:
'Be My Baby' - The Ronettes
'Everywhere', 'Man of the World' - Fleetwood Mac
'Avalon', 'Dance Away' - Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music
'Fairytale of New York' - The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
To name but a few!
What about THE all-time classic??
