My abiding memories of Thatcher at the time her government was introducing the most draconian censorship in the Western world, were her frequent interviews in which she earnestly repeated her mantra; "The state has no business regulating your lives or telling you how to spend your money"

Plenty hold these double standards today, the obvious example being the vociferously pro-censorship Daily Mail, which also constantly rails against the "nanny-state".

I also recall a leftist group called, I think, "The Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom", which wanted even tighter controls on sexually explicit material.
