You are correct that their was killings of the Jews amongst others before Wannsee and the four extermination squads were active prior to 1942. Nevertheless the decision to implement 'the Final Solution' was made at Wannsee, that is to say the decision to exterminate the race by mass gassing. The order to Heydrich came from Goering although he denied later that it was his intention to have the Jews murdered.

Churchill was speaking about the dangers of Nazism and the threat posed by Hitler as early as 1934. He did, however, say that if Britain were ever defeated in a war that he would hope for someone LIKE Hitler to emerge and lead the revival of the nation.

1935 - "One may dislike Hitler's system and yet admire his patriotic achievement. If our country were defeated, I hope we should find a champion as indomitable to restore our courage and lead us back to our place among the nations".

That doesn't mean he (Churchill) supported militarism, subjugation of nations or of peoples. He saw what a strong national figure could do and admired his peaceful achievements. Remember that in the mid 30s, most of Europe and the USA was mired in depression.

That?s the clearest, most concise, insightful, and indeed eloquent, analysis of Islamic culture and religion (from a western perspective) that I?ve ever come across. It seems all the more remarkable that it was first published way back in 1899, when Churchill was 25. It?s quite clear to me that this is not some wild-eyed, irrational, anti-Islamic rant - because Churchill not only highlights the negative aspects of Islamic culture and society, he also takes time to praise the positive ? and in particular the ?splendid qualities? of individual Moslems. There?s much wisdom here. Churchill was a great man indeed.

Hitler made a peace offer in 1940 which given the situation at the time seems to have been quite generous, always assuming he kept to it, which he probably would not have. There seems little doubt that had Lord Halifax and not Churchill been Prime Minister it would have been accepted. If it had been, Germany would probably have defeated the Soviet Union and world history would have been very different.
The holocaust or Final Solution did not commence in 1938 although there is little doubt a vicious pogrom was taking place.

Churchill's remembered (rightly) for being a strong war leader. The problem an ex-empire like Britain has is that many of our former heroes are famous for killing and stealing in Asia and Africa. That was considered OK at the time, but standards have changed.

We can still blow up darkies with impunity (as Iraq/Afghanistan show) but these days you need all the correct paperwork... it's political correctness gone mad! !wink!
