I know that NZ is a little country the other side of the world but am I correct in assuming that few here knew that Peter "Lord of the Rings/King Kong" Jackson is to produce the remake.
And here's the debate

It was in the press here when it was announced, Mart. Pros, it should look good and this time the true bomb will be seen (it was still classified when the original film was made); antis, the political correctness will be there (but how do you explain context to an audience that has a short attention span), and if it follows the facts it might be seen as Brit bashing (since the mission was rather a curate's egg).

For sheer awe, though-----I am amazed at the bravery of those who flew hundreds and thousands of miles on missions in canvass and wood creations. The bald facts in history books can do nothing to evoke the feeling of flying in a Lancaster (or a Spitfire or Hurricane).

The BOBMF Lancaster is now at Air Atlantique based at Coventy airport for about 6 months for a major overhaul.
So hopefully will be airworthy for at least a few more years.

Not demeaning those who did fly in woodand canvass creations but, apart from some of the control surfaces the Lancaster was a metal aircraft

either way having given it more thought I don't think they have much choice but to call the dog Nigger and just put a very very noticeable disclaimer at the beginning and end of the film to say...look...seriously, we had to maintain the integrity.

nice to see Jackson hinting the movie will be non hollywood and more true to what we would hope as British people.

From the link that mart posted, at least it sounds like Peter Jackson is going to try to keep the British end up, but with regard to Tom and ' The Few ' we will have to see. It's been a while in the making and although the story of Billy Fiske is an interesting one, it will be a shame if he is transformed into winning the Battle of Britain.
