I'm no big lover of religion but if you suggest pulling state funding from those who are then you are just as harmful as the people you are railing against. Some may see such a retraction as an offence against their beliefs.

How then can we best remedy this situation without offence? That is the question you should answer. Stopping funding of any sort is not going to stop people believing in their faith. In short it sounds like a call to arms.

I believe in complete freedom of religion. I just don't want to fund religious teaching. In the 1980s Reagan introduced a lot of state support for religion which has continued up till now. The end result is that America has become more religious and more extreme in 20 years while Europe has headed in the opposite direction. Evangelists are targeting schools (for example sending free DVDs to teach "Intelligent Design").

If people want their kids to be religious, they should do it on their own time and own money. State-funded schools shouldn't be helping out. I'd abolish faith-based schools - they divide people. I know that Jewish schools for example teach a pro-Israeli political line - the state shouldn't fund religious or political brainwashing.

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

Hello Crofter, have we met? I'd like to chat, but the butler's bringing me breakfast now, and then the chauffeur's going to take me sales shopping in the Bentley (Mercedes? How common.)
