Often, these 24 carrat arseholes seem to pick on species that are known for being placid and very trusting. Near where I live ( in Perth, Oz ) we have these little animals called quokkas. There're a bit like a miniature kangaroo and absolutely no threat to anyone.

A pack of absolute shits thought it was fun to kick several of them to death a year or so back. They were caught and given the usual piss-weak sentence ( 'community service ' - which usually isn't even served and nothing is done about it because " It wouldn't help them anyway " ). As they were walking out of court, they were immediately hugged by their utterly fucking gorgeous girlfriends and did one finger salutes to the camera as they sauntered off like rap gangsters, so full of themselves it made me fume.

Bring back torture. Fuck 'em.

My answer to this sort of scum, show off what his air rifle can do by shooting him in the head! An air rifle's not very powerful, so one shot at point blank range in the side of his head would probably leave him brain damaged and needing to have his ass wiped for him for the rest of his life. Justice would be served in my opinion.

Seems to me that it is OK to kill certain animals for fun, ie Rats and Rabbits as Sam Slater mentions above but not others, but who actually gives us the morale right to choose what can and cannot be slaughtered in this day and age??

I don't believe in killing any animal for fun. That's the reason why I think horse racing like the Grand National should be banned. How many horses have died in just the Grand National alone simply for human entertainment and profit? But then there are different levels of intelligence with animals. Swans and dolphins, for example, have been proven to have very high IQs, especially dolphins, which are thought to be on a par with humans (some, anyway...)! So yeah, there is a difference between killing a dolphin and a rat.

There is, in that Dolphins are more endangered. I don't think intelligence make it more or less moral.

Like I stated above, I've killed rats and rabbits on farm as a teenager, and I did it because it was a challenge................I liked it. The only difference between me and this 'swan killer' is that rats and rabbits aren't very trusting, and they're harder to stalk and kill, while the Swan was probably trusting of humans, and the guy was picking an easy target.

In reality though, we've both killed animals with an air rifle. Regardless of beauty or intelligence, we killed for fun.

I'm not stupid, I admit there's a big difference in each case, but it makes me uneasy when people only get angry over the deaths of something they like at a personal level. Many many people wouldn't think twice about using a bit of fly spray on a wasp, regardless of the fact that fly spray slowly paralyses the insect to where it cannot control it's wings and it flies into things at high speed (feeling pain?). This accelerates until the insects respiratory system fails and it suffocates slowly (feeling pain?).

I'll not go into how rat poison works.

It pisses me off how we get 'Save the Panda/Dolphin/Rhino/Elephant/Tiger' appeals when at an ecological level it's the plants, insects, fungus and beetles that hold our planet together.

'Save the Beetle' or 'Save the Moth' just wouldn't pull on societies heart strings as much though would it? We have to see a little bit of ourselves in an animal, or it has to have a little bit of character for us to deem it something worth saving, and for most people to get angry over, to a point where someone would do 'jail time' to put the animal killer in a coma.

Would anyone put someone in a coma, they'd seen drown a house spider, or stamp on a wasp?

Shit through the mother fuckers letterbox!, then take his kneecaps out and use them as ashtrays while the punk sqirms on the floor.
