That's a fair point you make and I wasn't suggesting that you or anyone else who, like me, believes that there should be immigration controls, is racist. I just don't trust the reports on immigration which The Mail and other such rags publish-the report on the Romanians was designed to inflame anti immigration/racist feelings by the way the report was worded.
I'm all for a debate on immigration but it's not helpful to report selectively and out of context in order to fuel ill feeling-the Mail is well known for its biased, reactionary reporting.

The reason so many people think it easy to cry 'racist' at any hint of immigration worries is a selfish pat on the back.

You see, calling a person a 'racist' (or even just implying they may be) is a beacon to others that they themselves are not racist. Basically they're trying to tell everyone how nice, liberal and tolerant they are. Racism isn't the issue, just the feel good factor of condemning others. (I am superior to you)

This has got to such a level that media would think nothing of printing the Queen with her knickers down, or call the prime minister a gayboy, but are too afraid to publish a harmless cartoon which shows the prophet Mohammed.

Ordinary people are silenced for fear of being labelled a racist, or intolerant. The Nazi regime used this same principle of fear to silence the ordinary German folk so they never spoke out about how the Jews were being treated. If they had, they'd have been classed as anti-German. It's the same philosophy that started off as a good thing when 'real' racism was a major problem. Like all good things, you can have too much, or go too far.........and people normally do.

Once upon a time people had a big problem with homosexuality because it was never discussed. I think we'd all agree that learning to discuss sex and such matters is a progressive thing? Immigration and problems with multicultural societies need to be discussed to progress..........yes that includes dialogue with the BNP and their ilk! !shocked! Hell, we may even find that most racists are only racist because it was passed on through the family, or they're really ignorant, or they're racist through fear....maybe because general society never listened to their genuine worries and the BNP 'seemed to care'.

The dickheads that go around mouthing off that everyone who disagrees with them on immigration is a closet racist, is blind to the obvious facts that they drive a lot of good people away to the 'dark-side' (the dark side being the BNP ironically !laugh!).

I don't read newspapers much (I certainly don't buy them) and may pick up whatever's lying around if I'm on the tube/bus/train, so I've no affiliations with any, but if the Daily Mail are addressing peoples worries, and not burying their heads in the sand -taking the easy option- then that's a good thing.

Genuine people have genuine worries and quiet often their ideas are misinterpreted ignorantly by others. They feel labelled, alienated and feel as if they have no voice. These are the people the BNP prey on to recruit- why can't others see it?

Labelling someone a racist so easily, may make you feel better about yourself, but your rash assumptions can make you just as ignorant as the very people you oppose so vigorously, and with such gusto.

Think about it.

My post started off answering a few of your questions and then wen't into a general rant about the subject. Re-reading it it may look like a dig at you personally which it isn't! I actually agreed with a lot of what you said!

You got a point there. As a matter of fact, you got THREE points there, ahhh ha ha ha ha!

Believe it or not Sam we over here in Chicago got some Macedonians driving trucks right along with the blacks and the mexicans and the Macedonians are growing in numbers.

Well let me weigh in on this subject. Here in the states we are having our own immigration problems with mexicans coming over the border swimming over or what have you, in droves. Now in the neighborhoods we now have the Latin Kings gang growing in numbers (luckily they haven't caused any problems here in Harvey IL yet) but in Los Angeles CA they're killing black non gang young people over turf since their numbers are growing there. At the same time since the mid 1990s they're taking jobs away from people and they're being paid at a lower wage to which they're all to willing to take (another form of exploitation to me). In other words businesses are at fault at hiring these so called "illegal aliens" to save themselves money while putting many of us, mainly black people out of work. But guess what? Even the mexicans who have been here for two and three generations don't like it either because when they came here they were hired at top wages and the new mexicans are willing to work for lower wages therefore driving the wages down to the point that you can't make a living. The republicans and the democrates are on the hot seat for this one. Pres. Bush wants to offer them a "guest worker" program and the dems don't know what the hell they want. Meanwhile the war goes on..

I know quite a few Romanians and Croatians, And all I can say about them, is they work like bastards, all seem to have a great sense of humour and are really loyal to someone who shows them a little bit of respect.
One of my pals came over had most of his family killed by war and thinks this country is paradise. Yes he works legally and very hard and employs many workers.
Unfortunately there are always going to be scum in all populations, after all I would rather live next door to some struggling eastern European family than Ian Huntley.
