The other side of the coin is, that rather than buying from UK shops, that people may start bying from internet sites. You may find that some sites may start to sell very good copied dvd's with casses and everything looking 100% the same as the real one.

But as more sites set up, which they will, this will have an impact of sex shops, and with luck push the prices down.

Internet sites have a huge advantage over sex shops, these being (1) cheaper, (2) people do not like to go in sex shops, buying over the net saves people from going in shops, (3) More chance on getting the vhs or dvd you are after.

What I would find of huge interest is how manny dvd's and vhs's are sold in the uk (porn r18), as well as how manny are uk made. The other question would be to ask, is if the shops were cheaper, would sales go up, and thus due to more sales, more films would be made.

I must admit, I would love to know the sales of porn in the uk.

Yes, Allan does sometimes give the impression of not being the full shilling. For instance, he keeps going on about it being 40k to apply for a shop licence. Where the fuck does he get that from? Is he thinking about opening one on 'Rodeo Drive?' Round round my patch the figue is 5k, and even cheaper on other beats.

I don't think the 'Mousetrap' has been running for this long, has it?

Eureka!!!!

Allan is talking nonsense as usual. Adult video vendors around the world who have a presence on the net don't give the slightest fuck to what British video law is and neither do most British adult video vendors for that matter. Which, to my mind, is a pretty commonsense stance in the face of absurd bullshit laws.

40K to get a licence to sell r18 porn not for opening a sex shop.

There you go again Allan banging your 'cheap' drum. I bet you are the type of dude who would rather buy a turd sandwich for 50p, rather than splash out on a bacon sandwich for 75p! Have you no self respect? Are you happy to be labelled a ?cheapskate?? Do you think those gorgeous dolly birds in the videos would be impressed by your unbounded thrift? Do you reckon someone like Michelle Thorn, or Adel Stevens would be bowled over if you treated them to a 'cheap' night out, consisting of a bus ride down to the chippy and a no expenses spared bag of 'scraps' with a few chips sprinkled on top?

I have read all that jargon before, but the fact of the matter is, thousands of internet (uk or not) websites sell R18 or stonger dvd's and videos to citizens of the UK. regardless of what the law is... not that i want anything to be done about it, but what is stopping anything happening to these sites if it is illegal??

Ah, now the medications taking affect Allan seems to be making more sense. He has raised some interesting and valid points in this post.

I think Internet sales are having an effect on the whole UK adult movie scene. Many traditional adult movie vendors (including shops) are finding it hard work nowadays and rising Internet sales are just one of the reasons. This may push prices down, indeed this is already happening, but it is not necessarily a good thing, even for the consumer. As Wesses.tv pointed out it's hardly worth bothering to produce adult content nowadays, as it's hard work trying to move it. Particularly in the UK, where there are minimal outlets and limited demand.

No, cheaper prices at the shops would not mean a stampede of new customers to buy shag films. There would just be the same customers as before, paying less. Folks who want shag films buy them because they feel a physical need; they are not price sensitive like tins of beans. If a customer wants a particular video, with a particular performer, or sex scenario, unless the price is truly extortionate they will just buy it. 'In the mid eighties Private shops had a non stop stream of customers willing to pay ?90.00 for a video of 'Guaranteed Hardcore!'

So no, if prices were cheaper sales would certainly not go up. All the people who want to buy shag videos are already doing so. Price is not the issue. And as palettes get even more jaded the number of punters purchasing porn is further diminishing.

Perhaps the authorities are unaware or turning a blind eye or have other things to do. In any of these cases, by keeping on asking this question you are making it slightly more likely that something *will* be done about it.
