Hear Hear Caractacus. I would agree with you about Paddy McAloon & early Costello. Not sure about Roddy Frame, though he was in the Frame (Get it?) for Marrs job when he quit the Smiths. Eventually being ruled out in favour of Ivor Perry. Who wrote music for an early version of Bengali In Platforms. Played by the new line-up of the Smiths

I'm playing devil's advocate here, but someone well into their reggae would tell you that 'Pressure Drop' and 'Police & Thieves' were classics.

Different context admittedly between Damned & Clash .. which Damned track were you thinking of? 'Help' which was the bside to 'New Rose' ?
