I think Trumpton's promotion is a plot to have him banished to the salt mines upon WZR's return. He'll be railroaded on some 'dereliction of duty' or 'incompetence' charge, processed in kangaroo court stylee, barrack room justice will be seen to have been done, and the limbo of Croydon or wherever awaits all for having the temerity to volunteer to deputise !
