I just read that more strikes are planned for next week!
The RM want to cut it's workforce by 40,000 and yet it's employing more causal staff !confused!

As a former postie I can tell you that your cousin is misleading you, with regards to working 20 hours.
Having said that as a former postie I can say they hate change and they would much rather go home early than do the shift they are paid for.
BIG change is something that has been needed for a long long time but like owt else change means people having to do a bit more and the dinosaurs in the CWU just wont go for it.
The majority of the CWU leadership and a lot of members are akin to the Miners and they wont be happy until the business goes tits up bending over backwards to accommodate them no matter the cost.

That's the impression that comes across, RA. They were boasting about the millions of pieces of post backlogged due to the action. Pissing off the public is not how to get them onside.
Five years from now, they'll look back and wonder what happened to their jobs and why did the Royal Mail get beaten by competitors.

Exactly.
Don't get me wrong the management of Royal Mail are inept in a lot of aspects and they could do a lot to improve the business without any strikes but the CWU need to accept a lot of changes need to be made as well.

My cousin has worked for the Royal Mail for 37 years!! The last time I spoke to him was when the new working practices were being introduced, that was 2 years ago. He told me then that Postmen/Women start at 5 am and after one delivery they finish at about 9 am - a 4 hour day for 5 days a week! They receive pay for doing a 40 hour week irrespective of how many hours they actually work.
