Italy won the World Cup as the majority of the teams have a backbone of Italian Players! And you will find that Italy was the one of only two teams at the World Cup where all of their players played in their league! Most Italian teams have been picked from Players playing in Serie A & very few players have ever played for Italy whilst playing in a foreign league!

Right now in Scotland we also have Hibs who's entire team is almost made up of players that came through the Youth Team & they have sold Derek Riordan, Scott Brown, Gary Caldwell, Kevin Thomson, Ian Murray & Gary O'Connor in recent seasons for big money & with the exception of Caldwell all came through their youth set up.

Also how can you mock Scotland for their football! Aren't you forgetting who invented the game? Also in terms of Fans, Rangers & Celtic are two of the biggest clubs in the world, with only Man Utd approaching them in terms of fan power! But you are quite right that neither them can improve a whole lot more, but that is to do with the money involved in your league. Which we will never have up here! And you do have a more competitve league, but that is only because of the money. Before the Premiership your league was piss poor!

England will never win the world cup while they keep playing big name players instead of putting the best cohesive team on the pitch

I disagree about the EPL and its foreign invasion

The better quality players you train with the faster you will improve
because you know where the benchmark of the best is at

Lack of time on the pitch isn't an issue if your involved in 3/4 competitions
every year. Its a squad game not a team game

Just delusional

Tottenham manager Martin Jol has sent out an ominous message to the top four ahead of the new season, stating ?We?ve got it all?.

Agreed I can't see Mido saving Southgate's job, could be quite the opposite

I don't know Buttsie. It seems to have got to overkill with all the overseas players now. The quality ones bring a massive amount to our league but it's the players of a level down from that who are bought because they are cheaper than English or British players and because they are also the ready made article and therefore don't have to be developed over 2 or 3 years that I have the problem with.

There seems to be a growing win now at all costs scenario as well.

Add to that alot of the academies are full of foreign players. The FA's School of Excellence at Burton has been mothballed to pay for the new Wembley which all means a shortage of home grown youngsters and if something's not done about it quicksmart then it will have the obvious effect on the national team.

It's not just football. Look at the amount of foreign players in County Cricket. Two overseas players per club plus god knows how many Kolpak players and other overseas players with European Passports. Club Rugby Union and Rugby League are reliant on foreign players as well.

With the Premiership for me then it comes down to this. Do we want it to be a sort of World League with the best players from all over the world and the best football but with a shite national team or do we want it to be a quality league with some top overseas players mixed with some good home grown players and therefore a pretty decent national team.

It appears unlikely the way things are that we can have both.

PS. An interesting article

Club versus Country will no doubt enter the equation and Club will always win

Can't see all those Foreign Managers in the EPL bending over backwards to develop the the raw English talent like Ferguson did at Man U eons ago for the good of the English national team. Most wouldn't even do it for their own countries.Any high profile Scot want to Manage Scotland?

Until they start youngsters to enjoy and improve their technique(which is the difference between the best and the rest)rather than winning the status quo will stay as it is

I'd suggest maybe a change to playing the likes of futsal or even programs like Curva rather than competitive pointless 9-0 drubbings which give the potential stars a bloated view of their real talent

He is at Real Madrid now & he still gets picked for Italy because he is the Captain & lets face it he is Cannavaro they can't drop him! Di Matteo hardly p[layed for Italy whilst at Chelsea & Casiraghi only got 1 cap whilst at Chelsea! Though you could make a case for Zola, but Zola was an exceptional talent, but if my mind serves me correct, i don't think he one too many caps while playing for Chelsea!

I think you will find the best players at Milan are Gattusso, Maldini & Pirlo! Or are you just conveniently forgetting them, also Nesta!
