I knew about the Henry Francis Lyte connection but was un aware of the Stephen Green (?) link.
A place with greatness far beyond its stature it seems.
Next time im passing I will look for the "WZR woz ere" graffiti from your mis spent youth!!
Cheers chap

At the Commonwealth games when England win a gold medal 'Land of Hope and Glory' is played.

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green
And was the holy lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills
And was Jerusalem builded there
Among those dark Satanic mills
Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold
Bring me my chariot of fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my (my) sword sleep in hand
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land

I also liked the Spitting Image take, while slagging off Thatch and her lot:
"I shall not cease from this great plan
No matter how insane it seems
Till we have built Jerusalem,
And made it look like Milton Keynes."
