The strange thing about The Filth & The Fury is that Lydon was very wistful about Sid and the drugs thing, and yet if you read about PiL then that scene was certainly going on around them .. certainly Keith Levine and possibly others.
It's quite possible and understandable that it was an age thing with Lydon .. revisiting that footage with Julien Temple probably for the first time in many years and Lydon reproaching himself for not intervening with Sid .. I think he says smthg like 'I could take on the world but I couldn't take on a junkie'. As I said, this situation did recur with PiL although it wasn't as personal since Levine didn't have the history with Lydon that Sid had.
