Hmm, possibly. Product placement, endorsements and future tv rights will have offset costs too. It makes sense to get as much back as possible before the public have even seen it I suppose.

Worlwide. US $200m and foreign around $191m. The home figure is decent enough but that's a poor show abroad considering how much other films can acrue there.
Superman Returns was not a flop, but it certainly underperformed. I wouldn't be surprised to find the sequel having a broader, more international flavour.
