The price of foodstuffs is likely to continue rising. Weather problems elsewhere in the world have affected production of wheat and cereal crops, and the drive towards producing biofuels has seen fewer farmers prepared to continue with traditional crops. With emerging nations with huge populations also bidding for supplies, and there being a finite amount available, prices will rise.

The townie shopper has been lucky for the last decade or more, as a result of the supermarket wars. Eventually, once Tesco has achieved domination in the UK, prices will rise.

As I'm not an economist, feel free to surgically dissect any of the above without upsetting me.

From my view point...........

I DON'T WANT TO PAY ANYMORE TAX...........ENOUGH IS ENOUGH....WE ALL WORK UNTIL EARLY JUNE FOR THE THEM!

WHOEVER WILL BRING DOWN TAX WILL GET MY VOTE !!!

I think life is as simple as that...........and as Mrs Thatcher said in 1983

"Governments have NO MONEY.. its the peoples money.....and we need to be very carefull not to waste it"

So ends the lesson !

!thumbsup!

It doesn't matter how you dress it up... things HAVE gone up and are continuing to do so (council tax, food and so on and so forth, and that's without mentioning petrol). It's October and my April pay 'rise' hasn't even been negotiated let alone agreed and settled by the 'employers' (local authority, god help me). Are you telling me that because the price of some electrical goods have fallen (how many times should a half-decent telly need replacing anyway?) - as always happens when 'new' technology becomes mainstream - I am 'better off' than last year, or the year before?

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Sorry, my mistake.
I thought that, with my take-home pay staying the same, a council tax increase of ?87 in my case would mean I would actually be ?87 worse off. I didn't realise that, having decided my perfectly serviceable and attractive 7 year old 32" Panasonic flat screen tv was 'old hat' and that I 'must have' a 42" Plasma, I would infact then be ?100's better off as I would have 'saved' on what it cost 2 or 3 years ago. I can see the error of my ways now. All hail Planet Disposable!!

"I already poste dthis, but you seem to have conveniently, uh, not seen it. Yes one things have gone up. But some things have gone down. And overall, in August, the CPI fell. That is why I posted about inflation falling. It was just a fact, that's all.

Given that it is likely that all people in Britian pay for their power, but not all pay for garlic bread or mayonnaise, it is likely that at a fall in energy rices will indeed have a bigger effect on the CPI (and real purchasing power) than a small rise (in absolute terms) in the price of a french loaf. "

CPI is the world's biggest con. A measure of inflation that excludes housing costs? Do me a favour.

My point is that basic foodstuffs such as bread, butter and milk have all gone up sharply in the last few weeks, so much that I have really noticed it. Milk alone is up 15%, and that's back to the 70's by any standard. The fact that a plasma screen telly is cheaper is no real consolation, I can live without that, but we all need to eat.
