Some theorists assume that the Sphinx is over 10000 years old, so way older than the pyramids.

It's not hard to imagine a change from hunter gathering to civilisation in such a short time.

SOME, yes, but the consensus is around 6Ka. The Egyptians before then
were demonstrably lacking in the tectonic skills to erect such a large edifice.

Errr... yes it is, actually. If by a 'short time' you mean something in the
region of 2Ka then yes, it seems there was a comparatively rapid transition
from hunter-gatherer to farming, and thence to the building of larger
settlements- these events studied in other early civilisations seem to an
extent to have been 'self-feeding' so a technological quantum-leap is entirely
feasible. At any rate, it is beyond doubt that the Egyptians achieved an
almost incredible amount of extremely rapid progress; the only comparable
leap I can think of would be the Maya/Inca.

So say the guys that ignore the water erosion on the Sphinx. You have to go back nearly 9000-12000 years to get enough rain in that area to cause such erosion.

Then there's the Sphinx being a lion and facing east, watching the sun rise. Exactly 10500 years ago, the star constellation of Leo would have been at the exact point where the Sphinx was looking, waiting for the sun to rise.

Not sure whether you agree with me or not here. I said "it's not hard to imagine", and you say "it is"(disagreement), then go on to say "a technological quantum leap is feasible"(agreement).????????????

Broadly, I think we agree on the events- but perhaps not on their cause.

The 'looking west', etc.thing sounds suspiciously 'von-Daniken-like', doesn't
it? As you know the dating of Egyptian aretfacts has always been
'problematic' but if you apply Occam's Razor it seems absurd to suggest
that there was a sophisticated technology in the Nile Valley before there
were the technologues to build it.

It's looking east, lol.

Let us remember, that when we first started dating such things, the younger these ancient relics were, the easier priests slept at night.

The Sphinx wasn't built was it? I thought it was carved out of the rock? No technology is needed really, barring a hammer & chisel.

We know the Egyptians mapped the stars, and I've no idea how the Sphinx would get water erosion in a place that's been a desert for the last 5000 years (the pyramids no not have water erosion so are much younger).
