Not that I'm aware, but it's not something I'm an expert in. I have a sneaking suspicion that Donald Woods and family might have escaped to there at the end of Cry Freedom, so its sovereign state status must have been respected by South Africa. Very odd, though, a country surrounded entirely by another one (Vatican City apart).

As you pointed out, it's really quite bizarre the American attitude to France when without French help it wouldn't have achieved independence when it did. Okay, the French probably did it to upset the Brits, but even so . . .
